She's my mom too
Chapter 1 -coming soon
I am writing a book about my journey that I faced in this season about the affects of mental illness.
To You,
If you are dealing or have dealt with mental illness my heart breaks for what you have experienced. I tell my children it is harder to do right than wrong. We all have a choice. Choose to do the right thing even if it is hard. How do you know what the right thing to do is? This was my struggle. This book is dedicated to those of you who have endured the pain and hurt of addiction and mental health. My heart aches for each of you because I have been there. No words can comfort you. Time can heal some of the pain, but it is up to you to change your mind set of what you have experienced and how you deal with it. Break the cycle. Do not become another statistic! My dad was an alcoholic and after twenty years of sobriety, he got weak and took a drink; shortly after that drink he committed suicide. Do you know what I did to cope with this pain? I volunteered at the Crisis Hotline to help others. My brother struggles with mental illness and that is what this book is about. The purpose of this book is to share my journey in hopes that you can be encouraged to move on, to seek help, or to help someone that is struggling with mental health. Mental health affects everyone in some capacity. There are resources and crisis hotlines. There are mental health hospitals. There are different phases of mental health. How do you move on after the aftermath of mental health destruction? How you deal with the pain? How do recover from the emotional aspect of dealing with this illness? You make a choice, you forgive. It is hard, but necessary.

Addiction
Affects Everyone!
My head feels like it is about to explode. My heart is heavy. I am struggling for the first time because there is so much drama and I am having a hard time processing it all. Have you ever felt like this? What do you do? How do you handle the pressure?
Addiction is common in my family. For the last ten years addiction has moved rampant by claiming lives, destroying material things, and leaving scars from events and words. My prayer is for this evil addiction to move on.
Several years ago, my mom gifted me a mouse pad with a saying “Pretending to be a normal person day-after-day is exhausting. ©2003 Suzy Toronto. I try to live a “normal” life. I have taken multiple personality test over the years. One of the personality tests conveyed that I am consistent. The definition of normality is a behavior that can be normal for a person when it is consistent with the most common behavior for that person. What does that mean to me? I feel that I make a conscious effort to be consistently normal 😊. My story is that I have lived with and witnessed what addiction can do. Addiction affects everyone that is involved. This last phase of being in a family with addiction has taken its toll on me. Here are three things that are getting me through this season: 1) faith 2) essential oils and 3) self-care.
My morning routine includes spending time reading my bible and participating in an online bible study. I also read a daily devotion. KSBJ is a Christian radio station that accepts called in or email prayer request and I have called and emailed in times of crisis. Occasionally, I will reach out to my church or to other believers and ask for prayers. This past year, I have knelt in prayer, prayed aloud, and prayed throughout the day constantly. Many nights when I toss and turn and cannot sleep, I pray. I believe in the power of prayer. One bible verse that stands out to me is Ecclesiastes 1-9 KJV “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be, and that which is done that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” My faith is strong and carries me in troubled times.
In 2016 I opted to live a chemical free lifestyle. The therapeutic benefits of Young Living essential oils are powerful. There are references of essential oils in biblical history. There are three ways to benefit from YL essential oils: topically, aromatically, and internally. I diffuse daily in several rooms in my house and at work. A part of my morning routine, I apply Valor, Joy, White Angelica, and Harmony. Throughout the day, I also apply oils as needed. Finally, I take daily supplements and drink Ningxia Red. This lifestyle supports living healthier and being more intentional about supporting my health and wellness while dealing with effects of being involved with a family of addicts.
Self-care is deliberate. Drinking lots of H20, getting enough sleep, and relaxing are important to me. I have also found that my mind races with information, so I will get a piece of paper and brain dump to provide relief to the constant clutter in my head. I have also set limits for myself to not be as involved in activities to take the time to heal and process the events from the last year and half.
Everyone has struggles and no family is perfect. If you are struggling living in a family of addiction look for ways to release the emotion and stress. You have a choice on how you deal with it. We all need an outlet and we need community. If you would like to connect, send me a DM on Instagram on cathey96gmailcom

Have you heard of Oola?
What is Oola? Oola is a lifestyle. It is a framework of living a balanced life focused in 7 key areas: Fitness, Finance, Family, Field/Career, Faith, Friends, Fun. Here is a short video to explain it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1Vg0BjRE_E
“It is beginning your day with purpose, ending it in gratitude, and filling the middle with hustle.”-TheOolaGuys
It is the Oola wheel, the plan, and the path.
It is oranges and skittles. It is every day, taking three steps toward your goals and taking care of the things that have to be done.
It is OolaBlockers.
It is OolaAccelerators.
It is no excuses, no waiting for tomorrow.
It is counting your blessing, not your problems & realizing how beautiful your life truly is.
It’s finding balance in an unbalanced world.
It is community.
My story begins when I started my Oola journey. I have a heart for helping people. I am a servant leader. I am self-driven, passionate, and I have always had goals. I have successfully achieved educational, financial, and life goals. Where I struggled was dreaming. I never dreamed because I thought dreaming was for the rich and famous. I am just an ordinary human living life and hoping that one day I get lucky to have what my inner voice tells me that I am not capable. The Oola blockers fear and self-sabotage were robbing me of living my OolaLife. I embraced the OolaAccelerator gratitude and discipline and my transformation of living a life of abundance, balance, and purpose unfolded. Oola is focusing on the 7 areas you need to balance and grow to live the life of your dreams.

Did you know?
Every oil that you use is a chemical that you don’t. Several years ago, I was introduced to essential oils. I was skeptical at first. One of my friends hosted a party and another one presented the oils that you see in my picture. These oils are included in a new members starter kit. The oils were passed around so we could smell the aroma of each bottle and we were encouraged to drop oil into the palm of our hand, gently rub together, and cup over our noses. My friend shared a short testimony or information for each product. For example, a 5-ml bottle contains 90-100 drops; and a 15-ml bottle contains about 200-240 drops. All oils are not the same. I could not afford the starter kit at the party. Over and over the next few weeks I replayed what I had heard about the benefits of essential oils. One thing that stood out is the importance of choices of what I allow in my home. I was empowered to learn more about natural health.
I left the party with some reading materials about Young Living and essential oils. I read the pamphlets from cover to cover and I continued to research. I went online to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and learned about chemicals in the US that have been banned in other countries. I learned that our sense of smell is one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain. The limbic lobe is the emotional control center. I am very sensitive and emotional. The more I learned the more interested I became. I learned that many oils provide support for every system in the body. I learned about toxic chemicals and I learned that I had a choice of what I allowed in my home. I learned the powerful benefits of the aroma of essential oils. I found the money and I bought a kit.
Overtime I switched from buying products that I had always used to Young Living products. No words can explain the difference that this has made. My challenge for you today is to go get a household product that you have in your home and look up the ingredients. You may have to get a magnifying glass to read what’s in it. If you can’t pronounce it, definitely research it.
Did you know that essential oil is mentioned over 1,100 direct and indirectly in Scripture? Frankincense is one of the oils included in the starter kit. This is referred to as “the coconut oil of essential oils,” because it has over 10,000 uses. I rub it on the back of my neck, rub on my wrist, and diffuse it when I am stressed or during my morning quiet time. This oil is one of my all-time favorites.
Oils fall into one of four categories: Authentic, Manipulated, Perfume, Synthetic. Authentic means the oils are 100 percent pure, with no added synthetics or other additives. Young Living oils are authentic. I only use Young Living essential oils. The oils are not “hokey”. They work! Young Living has over 6 million customers. If you’re not using essential oils and essential oil infused products. You should be. Every oil that you use is a chemical that you don’t.

Your job has been eliminated
Freedom
Every day I get up and go to work. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. For thirty-two years, I drive to the same address and over the years the area changes and I find myself driving different routes to get the same place. Thirty-two years and then with a snap; my position is eliminated. My routine, as I know it, abruptly changes. I made up my mind at that time that I would never be in a situation that I was depending on someone else for my income. This mindset led me to open the doors to include multiple streams of income.
Several years ago, I enrolled as a Young Living Member. I was in a season that I was looking to live a healthier lifestyle and I fell in love with the products. I used Lavender to unwind, Thieves to clean, and Panaway for tired muscles. I started sharing which in turn generated income.
I have followed the Oola guys, Dr. Dave and Dr. Troy, for several years. They created the Oola framework. Oola is finding balance in seven key areas and finding purpose. I work on living Oola. When Oola launched their coaching program, I knew that I was meant to pursue my certification. I have a heart for helping people. It feels right coaching others on the Oola framework and guiding them to live their Oola life.
This journey has allowed me to soul search and dig deep to my core to release emotion and “stuff” that has been bottled up inside from pain, rejection, heartbreak, etc. For the first time in my life I know who I am, what I want, and a plan to take there.
Some of life’s greatest blessings are the ones that cause the biggest pivots. Today, I am grateful for new opportunities. I was comfortable driving to that address for thirty-two years. I was not living my purpose. I was going through the motions. Where one door closes, another one opens, and in my case several doors opened.

Finance
Money is a stressor
One of life’s greatest stresses is money or lack of it. Where do you stand with your finances? I used to say shopping was my therapy. Several years ago, when I started living life differently, I decided one area of focus was to declutter. Decluttering changed my shopping habits which improved my finances because I spent less. I learned that I was an emotional and impulse shopper. I realized there were areas that I had opportunities to improve the way I was managing my finances. This is the time that I started working on multiple streams of income. I made the choice to live the rest of my life to live financially free. You can too.
Personal finances—including managing debt, overspending, cutting back, and the daily fear of not having enough—is an emotional area for most people. It is a major cause of marital turmoil and a major driver of life decisions (both good and bad). Debt in particular limits many people's lifestyle options. You can't live your purpose when your under this much stress.
Free Tip - Do you have a budget? If not, start with a budget. Be honest with yourself and document everything you spend.
The reality is that some people sail through tough economic times with a healthy emergency fund, little to no debt, a side hustle that pays household expenses, and a lifestyle they can dial down at a moment’s notice. For others, a personal crisis like a sudden job loss or major car repair is a wake-up call that their finances need a serious do-over.
With financial stress at an all-time high, this is your chance to take action. It is time to transform your finances. Do you have a savings account for emergencies? Do you put money aside for fun? Are you investing? The Oola Green Gap formula is for you.
Oola Finance affirmation is “I am financially free and living abundantly.”
